The monitoring made by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Map) indicates that, so far, the forecasts on the route of the locust cloud, which has not entered Brazilian territory, are maintained. The map's work continues in a rhythm of alert along with the technical teams of the Federal Superintendences of Agriculture and the state agencies of Agricultural Defense in the states of Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, as well as federal agricultural surveillance units located on the border with Rio Grande do Sul.
The ordinance released today (25) by the Map declaring a phytosanitary state of emergency in RS and SC has a preventive character. In addition, this measure aims to allow a more agile mobilization of human and financial resources to promote possible pest control.
The Map also publishes on Thursday a technical manual of guidelines on pest control actions adapted to the conditions of Brazil, supported by scientific data, with the proper training of agents involved in a possible outbreak of the plague in the country.
According to the meteorological data for the Southern Region of Brazil, predicted for the coming days, it is unlikely – so far – that the cloud will advance in national territory. If this occurs, an internal monitoring will be made to monitor the evolution of the event.
