The Education Commission (EC) can vote this Tuesday (12), from 9am, the report by Senator Regina Sousa (PT-PI) in favor of the proposal that establishes the National Week of Family Farming ( PLC 4/2017 ).
According to the text, the week will always take place in the period on which July 24 falls, because on this date, in 2006, Law 11.326 , which established national guidelines for agriculture and family enterprises in the countryside.
Also according to the proposal, during the week events, activities, seminars and lectures will be developed throughout the country, focusing on the public policies provided for in Law 11.326.
Regina Sousa recalls in the report the importance of Article 5 of this law, which addresses the objectives of the National Family Agriculture Policy. The article provides for credit actions and a guarantee fund; infrastructure and services; technical assistance and rural extension; search; commercialization; safe; housing; sanitary, social security, commercial and tax legislation; cooperativism and associativism; education, training and professionalization; non-agricultural rural businesses and services; and agro-industrialization.
Based on official data from the federal government, the senator reinforces that family farming employs at least five million families in the country, being responsible for most of the food that reaches the Brazilian table. It represents 84% of all rural properties, despite occupying only 24.3% of the agricultural territory.
Distance learning on health
The Education Commission can also vote on Senator Cristovam Buarque’s request (PPS-DF) for a public hearing on distance learning in the health area. For the debate, he asks for the participation of representatives of the National Health Council (CNS), the Forum of Federal Councils in the Health Area; the Forum of Regional Councils in the Health Area, the Regional Council of Biomedicine of the 3rd Region, the Ministry of Education and the Brazilian Association of Distance Education.
