Following consumer behavior, more compact conservative provides greater convenience and facilitates the exposure of fresh products

With new conservative DaColheita, consumer now has the option to buy fruit portioned and packed for greater health security (Disclosure / Thermotechnical)
The DaColheita line has just added another item to the portfolio of conservatives in EPS for FLVs (fruits, vegetables and vegetables) manufactured by Termotécnica (termotecnica.ind.br). This is the conservative for four cumbucas, a more compact version of the packaging that won worldstar, the industry's leading global award, last year. According to the commercial manager for the Agribusiness market of Termotécnica, Alfredo Gonçalves, with size and capacity smaller than the version for ten cumbucas, the new conservative comes to meet the demand and change of behavior of consumers in times of pandemic by Covid-19.
According to a survey conducted in March by the PMA – Produce Marketing Association (pma.agr.br) -, an association that brings together PRODUCERS of FLVs in Brazil, about 81% of Brazilian consumers have expressed concern about food hygiene and safety. With health safety at the top of consumers' priorities, the conservative Four-Cumbucas provides more hygiene and practicality in transporting and storing fresh produce.
According to the same survey, 59% of consumers report that they have been looking for more fresh products packaged for food safety reasons. "The larger boxes, for five or ten kilos of capacity, more meet the needs of flvs producers who provide for large wholesalers. With this new option, the farmer can sell to supermarket chains that can expose the product still in the conservatives directly on the gondola. And the consumer, in turn, can take the box with the four cumbucas straight to their home, keeping the fruits protected and fresh from the field to the table, with minimal handling throughout the process", says Gonçalves.
Another change in consumer behavior in times of social isolation is the reduction in the frequency of going to supermarkets and the presence of a higher volume of purchases at once. The exclusive formulation of the conservative DaCollheita effectively delays the ripening and aging processes, inhibiting microbial decomposition and preserving the quality and nutritional value of packed FLVs. Thus, the consumption period is extended, also avoiding food waste. "With this smaller and lighter box, consumers will be able to bring to their homes a good amount of fruit with the certainty that their nutritional qualities will be preserved, with greater sanitary safety and will remain fresh for longer," says the commercial manager of Termotécnica.
In addition to preserving the quality of FLVs and improving retail exposure by reducing human contact with products throughout the chain, packaged foods also gain importance since product traceability is critical both to ensure their origin and quality and in the delivery process.
Novelty is already being tested by premium fruit producers
Manufactured at termotécnica's petrolina (PE) plant, this appeal and versatility of the conservative DaColheita for four cumbucas is already attracting premium grape producers from the São Francisco Valley, including Fazenda Estrela do Vale. Its Commercial Director, Diego Augusto da Silva Gonçalves, believes that this smaller box allows many advantages, especially for retail networks targeted at classes A and B.
Among the benefits pointed out by the producer are the valorization of packaged grapes, reducing handling and preserving their quality, in addition to convenience for consumers. "I see that this lower unitization and possibility of composing a mix of varieties ported by the new conservative DaColheita, provides an appeal to the consumer, encouraging the increase in per capita consumption of fruit, with less handling and more practicality", says the entrepreneur.
Produced in EPS, a lightweight, resistant and 100% recyclable material, the conservative DaColheita maintain the ideal atmosphere to extend the life of FLVs. They provide high thermal insulation, impact absorption, ease in stacking, transportation and exposure of products. Therefore, they are widely used for extended storage and long-distance shipments of FLVs. This also represents more days with healthy and fresh foods on gondolas with many advantages for the retailer. Also on logistics issues, the conservative DaColheita eliminate expenses with return freight, since the EPS is one way and can be 100% recycled in post-consumption.
The DaColheita line has more than 20 items in the portfolio, with a capacity between 1 kilo and 16 kilos, with conservatories for various types of fruits, vegetables and vegetables. Certified by testing in European laboratories (AgroTropical and HDG), the conservatives in EPS DaColheita can extend the shelf-life of fresh products by up to 30%, offering advantages to all stakeholders in the flvs supply chain and helping to address these logistical issues.
Thermotechnical: innovation with sustainability
Since its foundation Termotécnica has been a pioneer and protagonist in the EPS market in the country, having innovation and sustainability in its DNA. At the age of 58, it is one of the largest EPS manufacturing industries in Latin America and one of the most sustainable companies in Brazil, according to the Exame Guide 2019. Sustainable development is among the company's priorities, and its actions are connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With headquarters in Joinville (SC) and recycling unit in pirabeiraba district, Termotécnica also has production and recycling units in Manaus (AM), Petrolina (PE), Rio Claro (SP) and São José dos Pinhais (PR).
EPS is formed by 98% air, does not use CFC and HCFC and therefore does not generate damage to the ozone layer. Its process requires very low use of natural resources such as water and energy, does not contaminate and does not generate risks to health and the environment. And most importantly, EPS is 100% recyclable.
To give an environmentally correct and sustainable destination to post-consumer EPS, since 2007 Termotécnica carries out the Recycle EPS Program, with reverse logistics and recycling of the material throughout Brazil. There are already more than 40,000 tons of post-consumption EPS that have gained a nobler destination – about 1/3 of all the material consumed in the country. The Recycle EPS Program is in fact the circular economy in practice: after its use and recycling, EPS is transformed into raw material for other applications.
