The Brazilian Association of Exporters of Fruits and Derivatives (ABRAFRUTAS) participated today (30th), in the V Meeting of Exporters of the São Francisco Valley. The meeting aimed to discuss the promotion of fruit exports from the São Francisco Valley to the world market.
It is important to remember that the São Francisco Valley is considered one of the largest fruit production centers in the country, mainly focused on mango and grape cultivation.
The fifth edition of this meeting promoted by Wilson.Sons, one of the largest integrated operators of port and maritime logistics in Brazil, was broadcast on Youtube and had around 600 views. The president of Abrafrutas, Guilherme Coelho, was one of the debaters.
Tecon-Salvador’s commercial export specialist, Cléo Marian, who mediated the meeting, said that export is one of the bets of current economists to leverage the economy and this investment will be very important, especially for fruit growing.
“For the follow-up of fruits, this investment will be extremely important to regulate the market, have a better price and, thus, obtain a fairer return in the face of production costs,” he said.
President of Abrafrutas and also a mango and grape producer in Petrolina, Guilherme Coelho, spoke about Abrafrutas’ performance as a representative of the sector and the concern of producers with the image of agribusiness in the international market, as many false news have notoriety, which ends up harming a sector that cooperates so much for the development of the country.
“We are taking action on this situation. We need to communicate better with the outside world, we need to be proactive and tell the truth ”, explained the president of Abrafrutas.
According to Coelho, fruit growing is the sector that employs the most, there are more than 5 million direct jobs and the world needs to know this and so many other benefits that this sector provides.
Abrafrutas is committed to opening new markets for different fruits. Faced with the export of Brazilian melon to China, Coelho reveals that soon they may also be exporting the grape to the same market, as the negotiations have already started and at the request of the Asian country itself. “We are active and the next fruit to be exported to China will be the grape,” he said.
Regarding the post-pandemic scenario, the only certainty that the president of the Association has is that the world will start to consume more fruits. Per capita consumption of fruit in Brazil is 57 kg per person per year and the recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) is 140 kg. Coelho says that fruit is the healthiest food and people have become aware of it, that it can be consumed at any time, that has for all tastes, all colors and all flavors.
The meeting was also attended by the CEO of Green Keeper, Alejandro Escolar and the Commercial Manager at Tecon Salvador, Guilherme Dutra, who announced the expansion of the Salvador terminal in which it will provide the northeastern market with a new opportunity to execute, mainly in export processes the São Francisco Valley, greater dynamism and excellence in services.
