Agribusiness exports were a record for the months of June in this month of June 2020, with foreign sales records of US $ 10.17 billion. There was a growth of 24.5% in relation to exports in June 2019 (US $ 8.17 billion).
According to the Agribusiness Balance Bulletin , released this Friday (10th) by the Secretariat for Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (SCRI-Mapa), in no year of the historical series (1997-2020) agribusiness exports exceeded US $ 10 billion for the months of June.
The main sector responsible for the growth of exports was the soy complex. Foreign sales in the sector rose from US $ 3.53 billion in June 2019 to US $ 5.42 billion in June 2020, representing an increase of 53.4% or almost US $ 1.9 billion in growth in absolute values. For comparison, agribusiness exports grew by US $ 2.0 billion compared to June 2019 and June 2020.
The export of soybeans in grains (13.8 million tons) had a great influence on these values, reaching US $ 4.67 billion in June 2020, with an expansion of quantum by 5.2 million tons in the comparison of the months of June 2020 and 2019. SCRI also highlights the resumption of sugar exports, which rose by almost 1.5 million tons over the two periods.
China was the main country responsible for expanding the volume exported by Brazil, acquiring 70% of Brazilian soybeans in June. The Asian country also increased purchases of Brazilian agribusiness products by US $ 1.3 billion between June 2019 and June 2020: 65% of the growth in absolute values of Brazilian agribusiness exports observed from June 2019 to June 2020.
Brazilian agribusiness increased its share of Brazilian exports from 44.4% (June-2019) to 56.8% in the month surveyed. In turn, agribusiness imports decreased from US $ 984.55 million (June 2019) to US $ 826.28 million in June 2020 (-16.1%). Thus, the balance of the balance reached US $ 9.3 billion.
Meats
External meat sales were US $ 1.41 billion (4.5%). The volume of meat exported was a record for the months of June (626.5 thousand tons). Beef represented more than half of the exported value of meat, with records of US $ 742.56 million. Both the mentioned value and the volume (176.6 thousand tons) were records for the months of June.
Pork meat also showed record value and volume in foreign sales for the month of June. Exports totaled US $ 196.86 million, with a volume of 95 thousand tons. Exports of chicken meat were US $ 438.23 million (-32.1%), with a 13.6% decrease in the exported volume and a 21.4% reduction in the average export price.
China stood out again in the acquisition of Brazilian meats, having imported half of the beef and pork exported by Brazil. China’s participation in chicken meat acquisitions was also relevant, reaching 23.7% of the total exported.
Alcohol and sugar
The sugar and alcohol complex was the sector that had the highest percentage increase in exports among the main exporting sectors of Brazilian agribusiness, rising 74.5% in the comparison between June 2019 and June 2020, from US $ 536.12 million to US $ 935.37 million.
Cane sugar exports accounted for most of the value exported by the sector, with US $ 810.80 million (+ 80.4%) and almost 3 million tons exported (+ 94.8%).
Alcohol also registered an increase in foreign sales, rising from US $ 85.83 million (June 2019) to US $ 122.71 million exported in June this year.
