The work is part of the State Regional Development and Integration Program (Prodeir), an infrastructure project of the Government of Pará that provides for the paving of more than 500 kilometers of highways in six integration regions of Pará. In addition to asphalt, the construction and replacement of wooden bridges by concrete and inspection points of vehicle weight will be made.
The paving of the PA-407 will benefit the flow of açaí production, which has in the village of Maiauatá one of the largest producers of the fruit in the region, and improve the traffic between the locality and the municipal headquarters. Other government works in the region are the conservation and hole-slap of the PA-151, in the stretch that gives access to Igarapé-Miri, and the construction of the bridge over the Meruu River.
According to data from the Brazilian Association of Exporting Producers of Fruits and Derivatives (Abrafrutas), in 2018, the municipality of Igarapé-Miri moved more than R$ 880 million derived from açaí production. In 2016, a survey by the State Department of Agricultural and Fisheries Development (Sedap) pointed to the municipality as the world’s largest producer of the fruit, with 305,600 tons and 28% of national production.
