The late frost on Monday caused damage to fruit producers in the region of Serra Gaúcha. The engineer-agronomist and rural extension worker from the regional office of Emater in Caxias do Sul, Ênio Todeschini, informed that the situation is still being evaluated because in some places the frost was more intense than in others. According to him, one of the main concerns is with the vines that are already sprouting.
Already president of the Union of Family Farmers of Farroupilha, Márcio Ferrari, said that the losses could be great, but he still did not know how to quantify the values. Ferrari believes that in addition to this harvest, the frost also compromised the 2021. “This morning's frost was harmful because the vines are in an advanced sprouting stage and there is no way to recover them”.
Menegotto cited the case of a persimmon crop in the Fazenda Souza District where the loss was total. However, the same producer reported that on another property that is four kilometers away, there were no losses.
