Also according to IBGE data, the municipality in Bahia with the largest fruit production is Juazeiro, whose billed amount is R $ 589,517,000 followed by Casa Nova (R $ 289,610,000) and Bom Jesus da Lapa (R $ 227,545 .000). Among the fruits analyzed, the one with the highest productivity per hectare is the Papaya (40,473kg / ha). In second place is Grape (37,352 kg / ha) and melon (22,575 kg / ha).
In relation to 2018, the value of fruit production in Bahia increased by 12.8%, which represented an additional R $ 349.4 million in one year. The good performance of fruit production in Juazeiro and Casa Nova was driven by the production of mango, which had the main positive highlight among Bahian fruits.
Between 2018 and 2019, Bahia recorded the highest absolute growth both in the amount of mango harvested and in the value generated by the product. Thus, although the state has remained the second largest producer of fruit (in tons), it overtook Pernambuco and recovered the position of highest value for mango production in the country, last year.
The Bahian mango crop was 442,233 tons in 2019, an increase of 16.9% (63.9 thousand more tons) compared to 2018; and generated a value of R $ 652.4 million, 54.4% higher than in 2018 (plus R $ 229.8 million).
The municipality of Casa Nova, also in the north of Bahia, became the third city with the highest value of mango production in the country, in 2019. The municipality of Livramento de Nossa Senhora also rose one place in this ranking, from seventh to sixth place. Curaçá, on the other hand, entered the list of the ten Brazilian municipalities with the highest mango production value in 2019, in 10th position (it was 14th in 2018).
